Second graders have been busy exploring habitats and animal adaptations! Their study wrapped up with a special visit from Mrs. Swift’s son, Matt, who shared a slideshow all about Alaskan salmon migrations and bears preparing to hibernate. Students then brought their learning to life by creating their very own habitat triaramas—and they were fantastic!
Our 5th graders had a blast in science class building catapults to launch candy pumpkins! Through this hands-on activity, students explored concepts of energy, measurement, and mass — and learned that science can be both educational and fun!

Our Girls on the Run team kicked off this week! A little rain couldn’t slow these strong, determined girls down—they adapted, got some running in indoors, and then enjoyed the sunshine when the skies cleared.

Both students received honors at the state level in Virginia and were also recognized nationally for their powerful essays. 🏅✍️

We’re proud to share that recent audits of school activity funds at all three elementary schools showed no deficiencies. In addition, GCPS has once again earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association.
👏 A huge shout-out to our dedicated school bookkeepers and to the outstanding leadership of our Finance Director, Stephanie Wyche, for ensuring excellence in financial stewardship across the division.
