Whether he’s talking sports, sharing his love of Star Wars, drawing on his experience as a Marine, or simply making a student smile, Mr. Meiller brings so much heart and fun to Byrd! Our students love him because he makes every child feel seen, valued, and important. Teachers love him for his dedication to our school and support for all. We are so grateful for his leadership and all the ways he makes BES a wonderful place to learn and grow.

We have kicked off our weekly Garden Fairies program this year with lots of good work in our school garden. Currently we are watering, weeding, and saving seeds!

We can't wait to see you Thursday night for Fairy Tale Math night from 5-7. We will have math games, STEM activities, prizes, visitors from the public library, and free pizza dinner!

Tomorrow is Pajama Day! "Don't sleep through your story! Come to school!"

This week is Fairy Tale and Attendance Matters Spirit Week! Monday is Team Day! We’re wearing jerseys and team shirts to remind us that our school is a team—and we’re stronger when everyone is here!

The Byrd Read-A-Thon has begun! Log student reading minutes on the website that was shared with parent/guardian emails last week. There are some great prizes on the line, and we are looking forward to making our goal of bringing an author or illustrator to school! Eagles have a goal of reading 100 minutes between now and next Sunday. Let's get reading, Eagles!!

GHS Dance Camp! On Thursday October 15th GCPS students do NOT have school. It is Parent/Teacher conference day! If you have a child between the age of 6 and 12 please consider signing them up for the GHS Dance Company Dance Camp held in the GHS Gym. This is a student run camp supervised by me. Learning from history, growing toward the future. 🌳💙🇺🇸 On Friday at Byrd Elementary, our students honored the 25th anniversary of 9/11 through meaningful stories, community connection, and a lasting tribute. After reading "This Very Tree"—a story of resilience and hope—students planted their own survivor tree on school grounds to honor the lives lost. A special thank you to Goochland County Fire-Rescue for visiting, sharing their wisdom, and showing our students what true community service looks like. Heroism lives right here in Goochland ❤️💙🇺🇸

Our 4th graders had a BLAST building and deploying rockets with Cayla Walker, 4-H Extension Agent! Student learning really took off during this activity 😎🚀
