Ms. Bugg’s Kindergarten students had an apple-solutley fun time exploring apples this week! They used their five senses to see, smell, touch, hear, and taste apples, then created a graph of their favorite types of apples. Our third graders had some special visitors today! Members of the Goochland Pet Lovers stopped by to share how they help animals in our community and how we can all show kindness and care to pets. Thank you, Goochland Pet Lovers, for inspiring our young animal advocates! 🐾
Ms. Alvis's kindergarteners and Ms. Ferguson's 4th grade students kicked off Book Buddies today!
They spent time reading together, sharing friendship and kindness stories, and getting to know one another. It’s wonderful to see the joy of reading bring our students together across grade levels! 💚💛📚
Our kindergarteners took learning outside today! They had a blast with Ms. Alvis and Ms. Austin reviewing shapes and practicing their writing with colorful chalk on the sidewalks.

This week, students learned about the different types of watersheds in Virginia during an engaging lesson led by representatives from the Monacan Soil and Water Conservation District. Hands-on activities and real-world examples helped bring science standards to life while showing students how watersheds connect to their daily lives.

🇺🇸👏 At our September School Board meeting, we proudly recognized two outstanding students for their achievements in the Americanism Essay Contest through the Goochland American Legion.
Both students received honors at the state level in Virginia and were also recognized nationally for their powerful essays. 🏅✍️

We’re proud to share that recent audits of school activity funds at all three elementary schools showed no deficiencies. In addition, GCPS has once again earned the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association.
👏 A huge shout-out to our dedicated school bookkeepers and to the outstanding leadership of our Finance Director, Stephanie Wyche, for ensuring excellence in financial stewardship across the division.

This program invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and father-figures to volunteer at school—helping in Encore classrooms, supporting at recess, greeting students in the morning, and being a positive role model throughout the day. 💚💛
We love seeing the difference our Watch D.O.G.S. make in building community and showing students that learning and leadership go hand in hand. 🐾
