Fairy Tale Week wouldn’t be complete without one of Byrd’s most beloved visitors! 📚🐾💙

For about six years, Pi and his wonderful owner, Christina, have faithfully visited Byrd, bringing comfort, smiles, and a little extra joy to storytime. Pi has listened to LOTS of books over the years—and somehow every story is a little more special when he’s there! 🐶📖

Pi is always happy to accept belly rubs and chin scratches, and he very patiently tolerates plenty of hugs and all kinds of Byrd Eagle shenanigans! 😂💛

Thank you, Christina and Pi, for sharing so much love with our students year after year. We are so lucky to have you as part of our Byrd family! 🦅🐾💕

What makes listening to a fairy tale even better? 📖✨ A sweet, cuddly pup to listen with you! 🐶💛

During Fairy Tale Week, we were so excited to welcome Dawson, one of our wonderful reading therapy dogs, and his owner, Danielle Bettin! Our students loved listening to stories while petting and snuggling with this adorable little guy. Dawson brought so much sunshine, sweetness, and joy to our day! ☀️🐾

🍂🎃 We got into the fall spirit today at Garden Faries! 🍁 Our students had a wonderful time getting creative and making scarecrows for our school and courtyard. We loved seeing all of their unique ideas and personalities come to life! 🧡 A big thank-you to everyone who helped make this fun fall activity possible. We can’t wait to see our scarecrows adding some autumn cheer to our school! 🍂👩‍🌾🎃

🧹💙💛 Today is School Custodian Appreciation Day, and we sure do appreciate our crew, who is the best of the BEST! They work tirelessly behind the scenes (and often right in the middle of the action!) to keep Byrd clean, safe, and ready for learning. From everyday messes to unexpected spills and everything in between, they take care of our school—and all of us—with a smile. Thank you for your hard work, kindness, and pride in our school. BES wouldn’t be the same without you! 🦅💙💛

💙💛 Happy Principal Appreciation Month to Mr. Meiller! 🦅
Whether he’s talking sports, sharing his love of Star Wars, drawing on his experience as a Marine, or simply making a student smile, Mr. Meiller brings so much heart and fun to Byrd! Our students love him because he makes every child feel seen, valued, and important. Teachers love him for his dedication to our school and support for all. We are so grateful for his leadership and all the ways he makes BES a wonderful place to learn and grow.

We have kicked off our weekly Garden Fairies program this year with lots of good work in our school garden. Currently we are watering, weeding, and saving seeds!

We can't wait to see you Thursday night for Fairy Tale Math night from 5-7. We will have math games, STEM activities, prizes, visitors from the public library, and free pizza dinner!

Tomorrow is Pajama Day! "Don't sleep through your story! Come to school!"

This week is Fairy Tale and Attendance Matters Spirit Week! Monday is Team Day! We’re wearing jerseys and team shirts to remind us that our school is a team—and we’re stronger when everyone is here!

The Byrd Read-A-Thon has begun! Log student reading minutes on the website that was shared with parent/guardian emails last week. There are some great prizes on the line, and we are looking forward to making our goal of bringing an author or illustrator to school! Eagles have a goal of reading 100 minutes between now and next Sunday. Let's get reading, Eagles!!

GHS Dance Camp! On Thursday October 15th GCPS students do NOT have school. It is Parent/Teacher conference day! If you have a child between the age of 6 and 12 please consider signing them up for the GHS Dance Company Dance Camp held in the GHS Gym. This is a student run camp supervised by me.
