Winter break is December 22 – January 2, and students will not be in school during this time.
We wish all of our families a restful and enjoyable break filled with time to relax and recharge. We look forward to welcoming students back in the new year!

A huge thank you to our amazing guest readers who joined us during Reading Spirit Week! 📚💙 Your time and stories brought so much joy to our classrooms and made this week extra special for our students. We didn't snap a picture of everyone, but students enjoyed listening to stories with Dr. Armstrong, Dr. Geyer, Dr. Waggener, Dr. Fowler, Dr. East, Mr. Watson, Ms. Hudak, and Ms. Donithan.

We are so thankful to the Goochland Women’s Club for their generous donation of two books to each of our preschool students! This thoughtful gift helps foster a love of reading from the very start. 📚✨

Today we’re excited to recognize Byrd Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Holly Swift!
Mrs. Swift is the kind of teacher every school hopes to have—kind, positive, and deeply committed to helping students work hard and reach their best. She blends time-tested teaching practices with current strategies to keep students engaged and excited about learning, especially reading and writing.
Her classroom is a place students love to be, and even former students make a point to come back and visit. With the enthusiasm of a first-year teacher and the wisdom of a veteran, Mrs. Swift is a trusted colleague and an incredible educator.
Congratulations, Mrs. Swift! 💛📚✨

We are incredibly proud to recognize these outstanding educators who inspire, challenge, and support our students every single day. Their dedication to teaching and learning strengthens our schools and our entire GCPS community.

Next week we will have fun with reading spirit week at BES! We have a few guest reader slots available if anyone from our community would like to come in on Tuesday or Wednesday to read! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0B4DABA628A6F49-61053254-besguest#/

The School Board meeting originally scheduled for this week has been moved to Tuesday, December 16 at 5:00 p.m. We are starting earlier than usual to allow staff and families time to attend the Goochland High School Band Concert at 7:00 p.m. the same evening. We appreciate your flexibility and hope many of you will be able to join us for both the meeting and the performance. 🎶

All after-school and evening activities are also canceled. We encourage families to stay safe and warm and enjoy the snow day ahead. Thank you for your understanding and support!

All are welcome to attend.

Due to the threat of inclement weather, including a forecast of 1–3 inches of snow in the morning along with freezing temperatures, we have made the decision to close schools tomorrow. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority, and current weather predictions indicate potentially hazardous travel conditions during arrival hours.
All school-related activities, including after-school programs, will also be cancelled for Friday. At this time, Saturday events and activities will continue as scheduled. We will continue to monitor weather conditions and communicate promptly if additional cancellations or adjustments become necessary. We encourage families to stay safe, use caution if traveling, and enjoy the day at home.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

From Frosty to the Heat Miser, audiences enjoyed musical moments inspired by classic Christmas cartoons. Students shined with drums, boomwhackers, solos, duets, and full choral numbers that filled the room with holiday cheer.
A special thank you to music teachers Ms. Gayle Oberacker and Mr. Joshua Stone for their creativity, passion, and countless hours of preparation that made this magical performance possible. ❤️🎼
What a festive way to kick off the season! ❄️🎄
