It was wonderful to see so many of our families at Open House!  We hung “getting to know you” posters around the school so our families can better know the Byrd staff.  You can view those posters here in case you did not get a chance to see them! Please mark your calendar for our next event on October 19th, which will be a fairy tale themed Trunk or Treat type event and Family Night at the Book Fair!

Please remember to check over the Health Screening Questions found below.  The best way for us all to keep our children healthy is to encourage good hand washing, mask wearing, and please keep your children home whenever sick. If your student is absent you should call the front office or school nurse.

Health Screening Questions

Can you believe we are starting our 6th week of school?  Our students are doing an amazing job getting to class on time in the mornings! If you bring your child to school in the mornings please only use the car rider drop off area.  We have teachers to assist students getting into school and to their classrooms.  Parents only need to walk students into the building if they arrive after the 8:00 am tardy bell.  Please have all transportation requests into the office no later than 12 noon.  This allows our staff enough time to communicate to teachers and students.

We appreciate all of the incredible support of our Byrd parents!  We are so lucky this year to be able to welcome volunteers and parent visitors back into the school building on a limited basis to ensure safety for all and adhere to COVID regulations.  We are excited to share that each homeroom is able to have one adult per class party to assist the teacher.  Also, because most of our classes are eating in classrooms with limited space, we ask that parents refrain from coming to eat lunch with their children until we return to more normal conditions.

Spirit Wear is now available! Simply visit the link to complete your order. Please make sure to fill in the Homeroom Teacher portion when choosing your size and color. Items will be delivered to students at school. If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Rush (rachel.n.rush@gmail.com).

Please complete the survey regarding family engagement at BES. Your input is sincerely valued and appreciated. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mrs. Kristin Dunnigan, School Social Worker/Family Engagement Coordinator at kdunnigan@glnd.k12.va.us.

Flyers went home with students to sign up for Destination Imagination!  If you are interested in signing your students up for this program, but missed the flyer, then you can ask your child’s teacher for another.  We are looking for parent volunteers to support the DI program as well!
