In Goochland, we are proud of the educational experience we provide to our students, their families, and our community. Whether our families are choosing in-person learning or the distance learning option that will begin with our K-5 students on October 19 and our secondary students on November 9, we remain committed to accomplishing our mission to maximize the potential of every learner.
Accomplishing this mission requires a different approach today than it did a year ago, 6 months ago, even a few weeks ago, and accomplishing this mission requires all of us-students, parents, teachers, leaders, and our community-to do our part and share the responsibility of taking actions to promote a safe and healthy work and learning environment. We cannot do this without the support of everyone, and we thank you in advance for your understanding, commitment, awareness, and support.
With this in mind, please note the following important safety requirements that will be in place once we welcome our students back into our facilities in the weeks ahead:
- Face coverings: face coverings are required to be worn at all times. Students should be wearing face coverings upon boarding the bus until leaving the bus and at all times in our schools. The only exceptions are while eating or drinking, or socially distanced while outdoors. If your child needs a face covering, they will be available. Face coverings must include at least 2 layers of cloth.
- Health screener: all students must complete the GCPS health screener using the email provided each morning or online at the GCPS qualtrics link prior to either boarding the bus or arriving at the school. Students who do not complete the screener will not be allowed to report class until the screener is complete. Parents will be called as necessary. If you have difficulty accessing the online screener, please contact your child’s school.
- Temperature check: all students must have a temperature screening prior to reporting to class. School staff will administer temperature checks for students upon arrival at school. Any student with an elevated temperature will be moved to an alternative location for further assessment.
- Social distancing: our classrooms and learning spaces have been arranged for 6 feet distancing among all students. A minimum of 6 feet of social distance should be maintained at all times, whether indoors or outdoors.
Anyone experiencing any symptoms including fever, shortness of breath, sore throat, cough, loss of taste or smell, chills, fatigue, congestion/runny nose, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, or muscle aches, SHOULD NOT REPORT TO ANY SCHOOL FACILITY. Any student who begins to exhibit symptoms or becomes ill during the school day will need to be picked up immediately. Please review the GCPS return to school protocol before returning to school after experiencing any symptoms.
This message includes highlights of the comprehensive GCPS phase III health plan, which will be applied to division operations until further notice. Let’s all work together to keep our schools as safe and healthy as possible.
