Summer is a great time to read! We encourage all of our Byrd Eagles to read everyday. Reading helps reduce stress, increase knowledge, increase vocabulary, improve memory, expand thinking skills and improve focus and concentration. We hope that this summer, our students will participate in some of the Summer Reading Programs.
Visit the Bookmobile
The Goochland County Public Schools BOOKMOBILE was developed to ensure that our students have access to great books and can continue to build their home libraries. School librarians will be on-hand to assist children (from preschool through middle school) select books that they can keep at home…and read over and over again! View the flyer here.
Goochland Public Library Summer Reading Program
We would like to encourage all of our students to participate in the Goochland Library summer reading program called Imagine Your Story. It is a virtual program this year. For more information on how to sign up go to www.pamunkeylibrary.org and see the flyer for more details.
Rising 4th and 5th grade students, get a jumpstart on next year’s Reading Olympics. To find out more about the Reading Olympics program and to view the list of books please check out the flyer. Many books are available on Epic and the Pamunkey Library through apps Libby and Overdrive.
Read and earn a FREE book!
Participation is a fun and easy way for kids to earn free books. They simply read a designated number of books – library books, books borrowed from friends or books bought at Barnes & Noble – write about their favorite part in our Reading Journal, and bring a completed Reading Journal to a Barnes & Noble bookstore. Children then choose their free book from the books listed on the Reading Journal and collect their free book from a store near them. View the Reading Journal here or visit a local Barnes & Noble for more information.
