Archives for January 2016
On Monday the 2016 One District, One Book book was revealed to students! Throughout the month of January students will be reading the book The World According to Humphrey with their families. GCPS faculty and staff will read the book as well!
Please follow along with ODOB Calendar. The calendar also features a question for families to discuss, and a nightly activity. If you complete the nightly activity, then please take a picture of your family and post it to social media with the hashtag #ByrdReads. You can also email your picture to Mrs. Parrish to post on our school website (firstname.lastname@example.org)!
We hope everyone had a fantastic break and holiday season! Tomorrow we will be back into the swing of things, and ready to start a new marking period.
The big news of the week is that tomorrow at school we will announce this year’s One District, One Book title. Each student will receive a copy of the book and a calendar with reading assignments, a fun activity, and one trivia question. We are excited that each of our families will have the opportunity to share this wonderful book! Please remember to come out tomorrow night for our One District, One Book kick-off event. The super fun reading party will begin tomorrow at 5 PM. Wear comfortable clothes and bring your copy of the book and a blanket to curl up with in the library. You will participate in a book related activity in the gym, followed by reading Chapter One in the library while enjoying hot chocolate and cookies. The RSVP form for this event went home before winter break. We look forward to seeing everyone at school for a great time!
We also look forward to seeing pictures of families, students, and GCPS employees as they complete the nightly activities throughout the month of January! If you would like to post your pictures to social media, then please use the hashtag: #ByrdReads.
Finally tonight, Nurse Wunsh would like to share the following tip:
If you have to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth- please, please, please! You should cover your nose or mouth with a tissue, throw it away, and wash your hands if possible. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow instead of your hands, and lower your chances of spreading germs.
We hope you have a wonderful start to the New Year!
